MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. It's an educational course which is delivered online and is open to anyone wishing to enrol. MOOCs are often delivered by renowned professors from famous universities and typically run over a 4 to 6 week period. They usually feature a blend of video content, quizzes, discussion boards, downloadable readings, and peer-to-peer assessment of learning. The goal of MOOCs is to reach a much larger audience than traditional courses can accommodate. MOOC platforms usually give learners an option to "audit" their courses free of charge or, for a fee, learners can gain a Certificate of Completion. In some cases, courses may only be accessible for a fee, although this remains considerably less than the cost of traditional campus courses.
